The pH value remains too high after switching from Bromine to SpaBalancer -- F040

After a systematic cleaning of the spa previously treated with bromine, I have started using the SpaBalancer products. The pH value remains at 7.9 despite many daily adjustments. Within 15 days I have used up a bottle of pHMinus. Is this normal? Can I use the pH minus product from HTP spa, whose hydrogen sulphate contains sodium (sodium hydrogen sulphate)?

Answer:
Most disinfectants form acid in the water or bring acid into the water. This helps to lower the pH value. But it is bad for the technique because of corrosion.

SpaBalancer products do not contain acid and do not form acid in water. Therefore the pH value is not lowered. The increase in the pH value is due to the hardness of the water. In water there are hardness forming ions such as calcium in a chemical equilibrium with carbon dioxide. The heat and turbulence causes the carbon dioxide to outgas. Because carbon dioxide is an acid and this acid leaves the water, the pH value rises. The harder the water, the more calcium ions and the more carbon dioxide is contained in the water. Therefore it takes longer with hard water until all carbon dioxide is out-gassed and the pH value remains stable.

Therefore it can be normal that you have to add a whole bottle of pH-Minus Liquid to the water within a few days. You can also use any other pH reducer without hesitation. The advantage of pH-Minus Liquid is the fact that it 1) lowers the pH value, 2) converts calcium ions into water-soluble salts, 3) dissolves existing calcium deposits and 4) acts as a complexing agent and can bind iron ions, copper ions, manganese ions.

But in order to lower the pH value, any commercially available pH reducer can be used. There are no problems with our products. If lowering the pH-value is too tedious for you and you would like to have less acids (chemicals) in the water, then I recommend our SpaBalancer SoftWater Pads. With these pads you get the calcium ions out of the water and soften it. This makes the pH value stable in a much shorter time.
