Do I need UltraShock if I have an ozonator in my hot tub? -- F064

We purchased a used hard shell whirlpool and came across your products in search of an alternative to chlorine. The whirlpool was disinfected by the previous owner with ozonizer and chlorine. Can you tell me if we can do without the UltraShock because of the ozonizer, or is that unavoidable when cleaning with the Spabalancer? Would it make sense to clean the whirlpool with SystemFlush, then fill it and start with SpaBalancer?

Answer:
The ozonator in a hot tub can only help with water maintenance. The ozone it produces is a gas that destroys bacteria when in contact with them. The ozone is led through a vacuum valve into the heating pipe and mixed with the water. The bacteria are only killed in this mixing section. And also only the bacteria that come in contact with the gas. In most whirlpools, the mixing section is only 2 to 3 meters long. A whirlpool with about 40 nozzles has about 100 meters of pipes. These pipes are not passed through by the ozone and therefore it cannot work there.

Since up to 99% of all bacteria are in the biofilm and not in the water, the ozonator cannot help here either. The bacteria in the biofilms continue to multiply.
Additionally, most ozonators have a lifetime of 1800 hours. These are used up after one year and the ozonator must be replaced.

For all these reasons an ozonator cannot replace the use of UltraShock.

From experience I know that almost all whirlpools that were operated with chlorine have brown sticky biofilms in the pipes. It is therefore very useful to clean the pipes with SystemFlush before changing from chlorine to SpaBalancer.
