What should I do if I have too much UltraShock in the water? - F031

There was a bad “wet dog” smell in my spa (1400 liters, 37 degrees Celsius)! Then on January 4 I added 100ml of Ultrashock, and then 70ml again on the 9th! No more smell! Awesome! Then on 12.1, I started adding SpaBalancer again, 60ml, and added 40ml on 13.1 (yesterday) The Problem: the chlorine value on the SpaBalancer Test strips is between 5 and 10 ppm, and more often at 10 ppm, and doesn’t go down after that! According to accounts, it should vanish! Now I’m getting hives if I use the spa! What can I do for the high chlorine value?

Answer:
You put too much UltrasShock in the water at once. I would do a partial water change, replace at least 50% of the water. The problem you currently have: UltraShock is an oxidant. If you have too much dirt and grime in the water, a lot of UltraShock is used up in a short time. If you do not have any dirt in the water, UltraShock stays in the water for a long time because it cannot oxidize with dirt. Also, in contrast to chlorine, UltraShock is barely degraded by heat and turbulence. This is usually an advantage. In your case, however, it’s a disadvantage. The Ultrashock content will only decrease slowly.

Ultrashock should be dosed in small steps. For example, in the evening add 20 ml of UltraShock per 1000 liters of water in the spa. The next morning, measure the UltraShock content. There should be at least 0.5 to 1.0 ppm (you can measure with our test strips) UltraShock content. If it shows less, increase the dosage to e.g. 30 ml per 1000 liter of water. If more than 1.0 ppm is displayed, wait until the value falls below 1.0 ppm before adding more Ultrashock. Of course, you can also increase the UltraShock value even more if you’ve got a very dirty spa or if there’s a very unpleasant odor in the water (due to the water being contaminated). Here, I would stop at a maximum dosage to 3.0 ppm. Also, I wouldn’t enter the spa at a dosage over 5 ppm, the dose is too high.
